Dakota Pratt is an acclaimed contemporary artist celebrated for his innovative approach to functional sculptures and contemporary furniture. Most recently honored with the Lincoln Innovation Award, Dakota has been creating art since the age of seven, drawing inspiration from the works of Henry Spencer Moore, Salvador Dalí, Andy Warhol, and Claes Oldenburg. His artistry blends traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques, resulting in captivating, one-of-a-kind pieces.
After earning his BA from the Columbus College of Art & Design, Dakota embarked on a dynamic career, showcasing his work in galleries and art shows across the United States. His signature process involves transforming everyday bottle caps into vibrant, textured surfaces by flattening them with a sledgehammer and meticulously arranging them in fish-scale patterns over hand-carved wooden forms. These intricate creations are then sealed with epoxy, making them not only visually stunning but also durable enough for outdoor installation.
Rooted in the traditions of found-object and process art, Dakota’s work merges engineering precision with artistic flair. His creations are widely collected and exhibited, reflecting his unique vision and exceptional skill. Hailing from an artistic family, Dakota proudly carries forward the creative legacy established by his parents, Rick and Denise Pratt, renowned for their groundbreaking twig art.
