Russell Whitmore II is an emerging self-taught visual artist whose work draws inspiration from his environment and personal experiences. Transforming ordinary moments into striking visual narratives that encourage viewers to slow down and rediscover their surroundings.
Born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, Russell was exposed to powerful reflections of culture conveyed in murals and installations all along the West Coast, where he quickly developed a passion for the arts. Moving to Dallas, Texas with his mom and brother in 2023, he leaned into his artistic abilities and became extremely fond of photography. After qualifying and attending the 2024 Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) State Competition, his determination to express his creativity at a larger scale grew exponentially. This led to a number of accolades, including the completion of his first ever mural the summer he turned 18, which prompted him into pursuing his artistic ambitions academically.
His paintings have been featured in exhibitions and art conventions across the states, where his work continues to inspire reflection and connection. While pursuing his BA in Fine Arts at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Russell strives to keep painting with purpose—hoping to strengthen his community through the transformative power of art, guided by a belief that beauty exists everywhere if we choose to see it.
